TRAINEE TRAVEL GRANT APPLICATION

Thank you for your interest in the EBMed “Great GI Debates” Conference taking place from Friday, Feb 5 to Sunday, Feb 7, 2027, at the Westin Hotels & Resorts in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

EBMed is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) educational organization dedicated to:
(1) improving GI patient care through CME education utilizing evidence-based medicine principles
(2) advancing the careers of women, first-generation college graduates, and under-represented minorities in academic GI careers through mentorship and sponsorship opportunities.

EBMed “Great GI Debates”:

  • Is in-person only (attendees must register at https://ebmed.net)
  • Provides career development workshop on Friday afternoon, Feb 6, entitled “Success Skills Beyond GI Fellowship”, including seminars on interviewing for your first position post-GI fellowship and negotiating contracts.
  • Offers “Office Hours” on Saturday afternoon, Feb 7, for 1:1 meetings with faculty to discuss research, career development, or job opportunities.
  • Utilizes unique educational format of debates between faculty on hot GI topics, brief “Top 5 Tips” from experts on common GI disorders, Guideline Updates, and much more, while focusing on Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, Esophageal Disorders, GI Motility Disorders, Artificial Intelligence in GI.
  • Includes multiple networking events with your colleagues and senior faculty
  • Is a one-of-a-kind experience for trainees: EBMed offers a limited number of travel scholarships. Travel scholarships include:
    1. Registration to  EBMed “Great GI Debates”
    2. A hotel room reservation at the Westin with two double beds (rooms are double occupancy, with check in on Thursday evening, Feb 4 and check out Sunday, Feb 7). Travel grant recipients have full access to the conference, hotel, networking events, and meals. Scholarship recipients have ample opportunity to interact with renowned GI specialists from around the United States in a smaller group setting. The travel grant does not cover any transportation costs.

Applicants will be notified if a travel scholarship is being awarded on a rolling basis. All applicants will be notified no later than November 1, 2026.

EBMed encourages traveling trainees to nominate/recommend a travel partner they wish to share a room with. Do you have a colleague who would have an interest in applying?

If Travel Scholarship recipients want a single room, then this can be provided for discounted cost of $250, but single rooms for travel recipients can only be provided for Friday, Feb 5 through Sunday, Feb 7. I understand that the award of this travel award entails: 1. Awardees are required to be present in-person during the entire conference from February 5 to February 7 at the Westin in Fort Lauderdale, FL. 2. Once approved, awardees will be asked to complete their registration at https://ebmed.net. 3. Awardees will share a room with another trainee of same gender. Awardees may name a roommate, but a colleague may be assigned, as needed. Travel scholarship recipients may get a single room if they have requested this on original application at an additional cost of $250. 4. The grant does not cover transportation costs to the event. Awardees are solely responsible for their own travel costs. 5. Applicants will be notified if a travel scholarship is being awarded on a rolling basis, which will usually be within 2 weeks of submission. All applicants will be notified no later than November 1, 2026.
